News Talk - $40 million compensation fund for Dhaka



A $40 million compensation fund had been formed to pay compensation to the victims of Rana Plaza building collapse in April 2013. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association had welcomed the arrangement of compensation fund.

The funds would compensate the dependents of more than 1,100 people who died and the injured in the building collapse, a majority of which where casual laborers.

On 24 April, Rana Plaza which had been constructed illegally had collapsed. The 8 storied building had 5 garment factories in which thousands of people were working at the time of disaster.

Bangladesh is the second largest garment manufacturing country in the world only after China and earns $20 billion yearly. The sector gives employment to 4 million workers and supplies garments to global retailers.
